Computational Origami for purpose driven Industrial Design

Throughout the whole design process folding offers inspiration, works as a principle of design, as a production method, or a tool for digital creation. This thesis has the aim to show the connection between origami and industrial design through a comprehensive research of purpose driven applications of folded design and existing computational origami. In the first part, the basics of origami and some folded products are explained. In addition innovative industrial manufacturing technologies for different materials are described. The second part is a documentation of the practical work with this topic, which includes a portfolio with new concepts of folded product. It explains the possibilities, advantages and functions of folded industrial design. The thesis concludes with a review and forecast of origami and design.
