Metallic Paper

Material: Metallic Paper, DIN A4. It is used for crafts and decorations. Due to its high ability flexibility to shape it it is a great paper for embossment.

Tools: Cutting plotter, embossment tool, tear resistant paper, mold system

Process: First I embossed the fold lines into the material, with the help of a cutting plotter with an embossment tool. This worked really nicely. The tricky part was the folding part, many test pieces just crumbled between my fingers and the material got covered in micro folds, which I didn’t aim for. So i glued the metallic paper on a tear resistant paper and folded it together, but again, there were too many small folds. The final solution was using a mold system to fold the structure into the metallic paper, and the result looks neatly folded. With this technique I can create planar and three-dimensional shapes, regular folded structures and fold patterns, that gradually open up.
